Sub-inspector convicted for accepting bribe in Hisar
Hisar: A Hisar court of additional session judge Khatri Saurabh has convicted Bijendra, a sub-inspector posted with the crime branch, for accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 after allegedly threatening to implicate a man in a fraud case. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Feb 23. The case dates back to June 29, 2021, when the Anti-Corruption Bureau registered a criminal case against sub-inspector Bijendra following a complaint by Dharampal, a resident of Kahnewala village in Punjab's Mansa district. According to the complaint, a fraud case was registered against Dheeraj Kumar of Sardulgarh village in Mansa district, and he was arrested by the police. During the investigation, SI Bijendra Singh, posted in the Hisar Crime Branch, summoned Vijay Kumar, a labourer working on Dharampal's farm, for questioning. Dharampal alleged that when he brought Vijay Kumar to Hisar, the officer threatened to implicate him in the fraud case and initially demanded Rs 2 lakh to spare him. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 1 lakh. Fearing action, Dharampal claimed he sold his wife's jewellery for Rs 37,700 to arrange part of the money. However, the officer allegedly continued to pressure him and demanded Rs 50,000 more. Subsequently, Dharampal approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Acting on the complaint, an ACB team laid a trap and caught the sub-inspector red-handed while accepting Rs 40,000 as a bribe. The court now held him guilty in the case.
